BasicPM™From the beginning in 2001, the BasicPM™ Training Series concept has had one objective: to build and strengthen the foundation necessary for value-based project management. The series includes an overview, full-course options, select subject areas, and an executive-only briefing.
NORTHPOINT Consulting Group takes a "brain-based" approach in its training and instruction. Most commercial training "mills" today seem to ignore two important fundamentals. First, the individual is an adult learner, not a child in secondary school. Adults learn differently, and are motivated in their learning efforts for different reasons. Each adult student has their own unique set of expectations on how what they are learning will make a tangible and concrete difference for their life and work. The second fundamental relates to the learning approach. The "brain-based" approach to learning provides the adult learner with the greatest opportunity for a real and sustainable learning experience to take place. This is because there is an emphasis on helping the individual understand how to learn, not just what to learn. Doesn't it seem like training is often a matter of how much information can be thrown at the student in the shortest amount of time...with no emphasis on adult learning realities? This is the fundamental defect underlying so-called "boot camp" training. Unfortunately, that is not consistent with how the brain works and why so often what we think we've learned seems lost weeks later back in the work place. Project management training should be more than just the transmission of knowledge about tools and techniques with the hope that students can memorize some portion of the content. The learner's experience must be able translate into practical sustained applicability if real value is to be gained and maintained for the individual or organization. BasicPM™: this is that. |
