Random Considerations and Commentary

The discipline and execution of Project Management is more than just an aggregation of planning tools and techniques, consensus-recognized principles, and standardized practices, as important as they may be to project success. The ability to work with and influence others is best accomplished when we understand those with whom we interact. This includes organizational leaders, project team members, acquired human resources, co-workers, and other stakeholders associated with the project.
There is only one thing every project in the world has in common, regardless of size, value, origin, complexity, source, importance, success, or failure: human beings. The project manager/leader's primary role is to bring the project to successful conclusion in as time efficient and cost effective manner possible. It is a role that demands that he/she utilize all the skill and information they have, and act with wisdom. However, above all else, it is a role that involves human beings. How those inter-relationships are understood and conducted will determine the quality and degree of value-realization in the outcome, if not the outcome altogether. |

Even in an organization that is somewhat dysfunctional, the project manager can lead a team in such a way that counteracts the organization's negatives. The project manager can influence the organization's leaders, develop or foster synergistic relationships among the team, and gain valuable personal experience which, at the very least, will provide realized value for him or herself later on.

Revolution dictates transformation. Organizations, as any living system, will progress from one space state to another. This often takes place within a slow "linear-like" process in which some form of adaption is always at work, occurring over time. Transformation is more sudden, a ripping of the fabric, and it can be (and usually is) messy. It is not simply rearranging the furniture, but the structure itself.
