Dr. William Yates, PMP
Doctor of Education
Project Management Professional
NCG Managing Principal and Lead Instructor
William "Bill" Yates has a career that spans nearly four decades, involving project and operations management, and as well as formal post-secondary education and corporate instruction. In the business world, his accomplishments include driving increased efficiencies into operations, streamlining organization product/service delivery, and achieving documented superior customer satisfaction levels. His value-added successes have often been within environments undergoing substantial change, including Fortune 100 and 500 companies, and a global venture start-up.
Dr. Yates’ corporate experience sometimes involved cross-industry, academia and government consortium partnerships, such as a new development based health informatics network program; a two-year public/private cost-share project where all company objectives were met, and the deliverables were accomplished on time and within budget; and a two year inter-organization process quality improvement project, which he managed to a mutually successful outcome.
Dr. Yates has been an adjunct professor for over a decade. He is currently associated with two major mainstream universities and one corporate education system that emerged from a third major university system. Increasingly, instruction has migrated from the classroom to an online environment (synchronous and asynchronous). His professional instructional assignments have taken him to Beijing, China, and Kuwait. Some of his online responsibilities over the past included overseeing and interfacing with several thousand students representing such geographical dispersion touch points as locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and the African continent.
Dr. Yates earned his Doctor of Education degree from The George Washington University, in connection with the Executive Leadership Doctoral Program. His teaching philosophy begins with the centrality of the student in the learning process, the variability and uniqueness presented by the student, and the importance of the teacher adopting the role of co-learner in the learning process. He believes the alternative, that is, approaching students with a one-size-fits-all-assembly-line-approach - generally a trademark of the omnipresent professional "course mills" - presents an anemic form of education and learning, one given more to the development of a mime or parrot, than a student actualizing learning.
His unique emphasis on incorporating adult-learning principles as well as brain-based learning strategies and techniques in his courses (including PMP® and CAPM® Certification Exam Prep) demonstrates his commitment to authentic, effective, and sustainable student-centered learning.
